Skills for the future: Building bridges to new opportunities

Training for and by the sector

Organised by Wallonia

DESCRIPTION

The delegation will visit the ‘aptaskil competence centre’ in Seneffe. This centre serves as a genuine hub of expertise and focuses on training for professions in production, chemistry, biopharmacy and biotechnology, and is a key resource for shaping the workforce of the future. Thanks to its state-of-the-art infrastructure and integration into economic development clusters, this centre can offer lifelong learning opportunities. Simultaneously, it informs and raises awareness among the target audiences (workers, job seekers and young people) and contributes to supporting the competitiveness of companies.

Main Objective

In line with the second theme of the Skills Summit ‘Creating learning and career pathways that lead to new opportunities’, the objective of this visit is to highlight the learning pathways offered to the target audience (young people, whether they are close or far from employment) by various Walloon entities. These pathways involve skill acquisition, development, reinforcement and improvement, and will be illustrated through examples of partnerships between these entities.

In addition, the visit to aptaskil will focus on the two distinct dimensions of its service offerings. First, you will explore all the training opportunities tailored to the production, chemical, pharmaceutical and biotechnological sectors. Second, we will concentrate on awareness-raising initiatives targeting young individuals. The aim is to promote and encourage the variety of choices and vocations in scientific and technical professions (STEAM) through engaging ‘discovery activities’, recognising that today’s youth will be tomorrow’s workforce. Furthermore, the delegations will have the opportunity to explore practical exercises. Finally, a presentation will address the role of the sectoral social partners in the development of the training offer, as well as the governance of the centre.
